Introduction
From a combined total of four locomotives, The Class 50 Alliance Ltd has three that are fitted with the mandatory electronic equipment to allow for their operation on the national mainline.
Historically, the Alliance (operating as Class Fifty Operations Limited) has sometimes provided motive power for a variety of trains for use in association with special events. Throughout 2006, in conjunction with Arriva Trains Wales, it provided locomotives for additional trains in the South Wales area during major events at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff as well as some service trains to Fishguard. Thus, after nearly 14 years since their last timetabled use with British Rail, Class 50s returned to work a spell of regular, revenue-earning services on the national mainline.
