Old Oak Common Depot
Upon reallocation to the Western Region, Class 50s became based at one of three depots. One of these was Old Oak Common. The depot was situated to the west of London at the location where the two GWR main lines split; the 1838 route to Reading via Slough and the 1906 New North Main Line via Greenford to Northolt Junction. The buildings were located at the site of the ancestral home of the Great Western Railway's primary London depot.
Throughout their time on the Western Region, the depot became closely associated with the class as did Laira in Plymouth. During the later years the depot had responsibility for the Network SouthEast fleet used on the Paddington-Oxford and Newbury line services.
In 2009 Oak Old Common depot finally closed its doors and was scheduled for demolition as part of land redevelopment for the new London Crossrail service.
